We flew to New Orleans to begin yet another Crystal cruise on December 20. though the Caribbean. It was our 3rd Christmas cruise on Crystal and our 6th total on the line'
"Why do you go to the same old ports?" many of our friends ask, and the answer is, it really doesn't matter where the ship goes. The service is still the very best and the food quality is the finest available. If you like meat, they have a food locker that keeps it at just the right temperature and Crystal serves a steak as good as the finest steak house in the country. Caviar and lobster, shrimp and filets. I am not a big guy, but I gained 8 pounds which I have to struggle to lose!
The ship is decorated with live Christmas trees and moving Santas, and yes a couple of menorahs. It is very festive. There are parties all the time and you don't have to lift a finger if you don't want to. The cabins are quite small on the Harmony, and a little bigger and better planned on the Symphony. The suites are also too small and not worth the much higher price (We do prefer suites on most of the other ships we sail on) and Crystal has announced a new ship to be delivered in a couple of years. Hopefully there will be more space and maybe single seating dining. The early sitting is too early, the late too late. There are 2 alternative restaurants, though, Prego (Italian) and Kyoto (Japanese)The Kyoto serves an "obon plate," which is a sampler of their best menu items. This is a great choice!
For elegance, par excellence, you cannot beat Crystal. We reserved again for next Christmas.
