The Bottom Line: If you haven't tried it, do it. Best food and service afloat, but we are ready for something else

| jwb429's Full Review: Crystal Symphony |
We took our usual Xmas/New Years cruise on Crystal from Ft. Lauderdale to Ft. Lauderdale. We live only 20 minutes from the pier in Boca Raton. ALMOST everything the same. Great food, service and decor. Nice casino, but I noticed that Crystal is beginning to cut back. The paid in full in advance discount for future bookings has been cut from 5% to 3-1/2%. This year they do not let you use your on board $ credits for anything except their over-priced shore trips or in their shops on board. You can always do better booking your own excursions as well as buying stuff on shore, which we found infinitely cheaper than the shops which would not meet the price. Spending $600 may seem easy, and we used to use it in the casino, but they stopped that. We get $300 from American Express Platinum card and $300 from Crystal Society and our tips were prepaid by our travel agent, so we had this money we had to use or lose. Perhaps we have been traveling on Crystal too long. Time to try another luxury line that lets you eat when you want and dress as you like. Even Crystal's new ship The Serenity has not been really upgraded to what I think the modern cruiser is looking for, and we have been on well over 100 cruises.
