Pros: Service, Grace, and Planning.
Cons: Not everyone can afford this journey.
The Bottom Line: The Paul Gauguin is an experience of a lifetime. The swim in the lagoon off Bora Bora was worth the whole trip.

The Paul Gauguin is a wonderful way to tour the islands of French Polynesia. The flight to Tahiti aboard New Zealand airlines was surprisingly comfortable. This boat is very well staffed, very well managed, and very well designed.
This was my first trip out of the country, but since then I have traveled aboard the Queen Elizabeth II, the Celebration out of Galveston bound for Cozumel, and taken several other vacations inside the country. The trip to Tahiti was, and I think always shall be, one of the finest experiences of my life.
The seas were calm, the water beautiful, the service beyond compare, and the food was exquisite. The young lady that took care of our room, an Austrian named Elizabeth was most gracious, and my wife and I both felt that we had gained a new friend in her, albeit for only a week.
There was nearly a 1 to 1 ratio of staff to passengers which made for an extremely pleasant environment. Every need was provided throughout the journey. We visited several of the Islands and the activities were conducted with much grace. Much thoughtful planning went into the treatment of the passengers aboard the Paul Gauguin. We were made aware of the wonderful history of the islands, and the Polynesian people were gracious as well.
It was very nice to return, meet my daughter in Los Angeles, and present her with a fine black pearl acquired in the islands for her birthday. The only other way to properly visit these islands would be aboard one's own sailing vessel. Lacking that the Paul Gauguin is an entirely adequate substitute.
